things not to eat in bed

In the last week I have awoken early each day to the sound of rumblings in my tummy. Hunger is an excellent motivator to get me out of bed. One of the many joys of preseason is burning enough calories to eat everything in front of you including the kitchen sink… it has lots of minerals ūüėČ Anyway, on this morning off I decided to sleep in. Originally woke up at 7:23 = not sleeping in. Forcing myself to sleep till 10 was a much better start. Deciding to splurge on breakfast (the healthy eating¬†regimen¬†is great, really. but I gotta have sugar sometime right?) I popped open a can of pilsbury cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing. Oh the joys of bread and sugar. (I had a¬†vitamin¬†with breakfast to make it healthy)

Skipping ahead to the things to not eat in bed. I decided since my roommates were out to enjoy my little treat in bed. Now for all you that have eaten these little bits of heaven, you know exactly how sticky and messy they can be. Needless to say I was very happy, but attempting to be very careful. The computer in my lap did not make things easier.

So for today things not to eat in bed….

1. Cinnamon Rolls

2. Tacos

3. Fondue Рseriously cheese everywhere is not a good plan.

4. ok, tired of making this list.

Post on pre-preseason to follow later. Peace and Love!

favorite junk foods

I like healthy foods, thanks to my parents for raising us right. I really enjoy a nice all veggie meal with a salad and maybe some bread. Or my Dad’s soups… they are incredible. I love when it starts to get cold and the soup pot gets used a few times a week. Yumm… Anyways, despite my enjoyment of healthy stuff, I also love a good ¬†junk food¬†splurge.

Something to the likes of a giant burger with all the toppings… cheese, onion rings, mustard, pickles, tomato, no mayo…. oh yeah.

Or a really large banana split with extra hot fudge.

Pizza… hands down best food ever. God definitely created that before the fall cause there is no wrong in it.

Chocolate cake with hot fudge oozing out of the middle. Oh shoot, now I am getting hungry.

Fresh cookies… I have 2 favorite kinds chocolate chip with extra chunks of chocolate and peanut butter cookies with 3 M&Ms¬†&on top.

Comfort food… homemade mac and cheese, or meatloaf (My Dad’s is the best)

Nachos with melted cheese, and salsa, sour cream, guacamole, peppers, meat, onion, and everything else.

Root Beer Float

Any holiday food… turkey, ham, potato casserole,¬†pumpkin¬†pie, sweet tea, green bean casserole, anything with cheese on it, stuffing, banana pudding, 7 layer cookies, pralines, traditional Christmas sugar cookies, monkey bread, coffee…

This whole train of thought started when I had a really good burger the other day. I went to Buffalo Wild Wings with my roommate (who is a vegetarian) where there is only meat. I got the Jack Daddy Burger with the regular patty, pulled pork BBQ, tomato, onion, onion rings, cheese, and honey BBQ sauce. It was so messy I tried to eat it as fast as I could to keep it from getting all over me. It was really enough food for 2 meals. Oh and fries came with it. I think I am still full from it.

Coffee has essentially zero calories. The way to make it not the best for you is to get the specialty drinks with all the milk and sugar in them. However, if you are like me and drink drop coffee with just half and half then you are set. Drink away! I think my coffee preference is one of the ways I justify my junk food cravings, at least I don’t get a ton of junk from coffee.

One of my best friends and I always tried to make cookies in college. But we were somehow lacking the ability to bake. One time someone, ahem not me, put a tablespoon of salt instead of a teaspoon… yes that makes a HUGE difference. There was always something wrong with us. So now we buy the pre-mixed dough; its harder to mess up.

The cookies are making me think of pazookies (I think thats what they are called?) that my teammates introduced me to in San Jose, delish.

So what are your favorite junk foods? Anyone?

I believe I am actually a pretty good cook, with the¬†exception¬†of when one friend and I try to make cookies. So don’t be afraid of my food if I do cook please. I make a mean pot of chili and a nice chicken pot pie. Steak. Fried Chicken. Fried Green Tomatoes. Bean Soup. Veggie Soup. Black Bean Soup. Tacos. Chicken Pesto Pasta. Breakfast… I love cooking breakfast. Ok done. Enjoy being hungry! hahaha

foreign roommates – part 2 eating habits

I love food, especially pizza. It is the most amazing food ever. I even ate it for 11 meals in a row (excluding breakfasts, so thats 5 1/2 days of pizza meals). And had it each day-ish of a vacation in Chicago… deep dish is where it’s at!! Though I have not tried New York Style yet to be a fair judge.

My roommates this summer were Brazilian. Now what does that mean concerning food you may wonder?? Well my Brazilians ate rice and beans and beef. Everyday. Every meal. Rice, Beans, Beef. How did they cook this you ask? With lots of garlic, oil, and salt. I seriously am going to die a decade earlier because of what I ate with them this fall.

Now don’t get me wrong, it was amazing. It tasted wonderful. I love rice and beans (not nearly as much as pizza), and I tried to make it and copy their cooking. I mean I did watch multiple times. There is more too it than adding garlic and salt to a can of beans.

They also fell in love with french fries while in the United States. We went to very few restaurants one of which was Red Robin. Being a southerner which is a region without Red Robins, I’d not eaten at this particular chain before. They specialize in burgers and have unlimited fries if you order a sandwich, burger, etc. So whenever we went out to eat they wanted Red Robin. Now I found a few things on the menu I liked, the santa fe wrap, a couple different burgers, a chicken sandwich, and a pasta dish. Well similar to their other eating habits¬†Erika, Nene, and Fu wanted the same thing each meal: fancy mac and cheese. It came with olives, onions, tomatoes, sour cream, and like croutons or something. Each Brazilian always wanted different toppings. Oh, did I mention they liked for me to order for them.

I drive to restaurant, Brazilians are babbling all at the same time in the car. We park and walking into the restaurant. Hostess asks “how many?”, I say four. We all sit, get menus. Waitress comes and greets us, making small talk, etc. Brazilians are awkwardly quiet. She asks for drink orders and looks at each of us. Brazilians stare back at her. I order 2 strawberry lemonades (Kika and Nene), one sprite (Fu), and a water (me). She leaves. Brazilians study then menu nonchalantly. They in turn figure out what they should desire (typically it doesn’t change) and tell me their hearts desires. (Note: this is way into the summer when they got really good at reading and speaking English) The very nice waitress brings back drinks and asks for our order. As she looks to each Brazilian they in turn look to me and I place all the orders. The waitress gives me a weird look halfway through.

*the order*

Always at least two of these pasta dishes of fancy mac and cheese with toppings. We had to order this with all the toppings on the side because each Brazilian wanted different things and it was always harder to explain which each person wanted. The table literally had 2 large pasta dishes, 12 cups of toppings, my sandwich, a burger, drinks (usually on the second round of lemonades), and condiments. In addition this place had unlimited baskets of fries… the girls new favorite food. They loved these things. And they especially loved them with ranch dressing and ketchup… mixed. Also, they put ketchup and ranch on ¬†their pasta too… at the same time. Now I love these girls a ton, but man I can’t eat the stuff like that. I know those waitresses thought we were crazy.
