FCA

Everyone has a way that they plan to live life, whether they are aware of it or not. They have pillars or sayings or truths or standards for life and sports. Some can be easy but unstated like my dad’s – Never Be Late. Or for anyone who has played sports for that coach that just likes to have a reason to make you run – Early is On Time, On Time is Late, and Late is Unacceptable. Some can be very southern and prescribed by others like one my mom learned in college – Never Chew Gum In Public or Let your Heels Run Down. There are several Bible verses that have become foundations for how I want to life. I fall short of these everyday, but thats something I still have to realize on a daily basis that God is in the business of grace and redemption.

Not to us oh Lord, not to us but to Your name be the GLORY because of Your love and faithfulness. Psalm 115:1

My God gets the glory for my life on the field, off the field, in the classroom, in my house, on the beach, while I am working, playing, hiking, sleeping, failing, or winning. HE is the reason I am alive.

Another verse that really reminds me of the life that I want to live is Micah 6:8. Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God. My life is to be about more than me, more than getting and gaining for myself. It is a life or service and love for God and for others. Now as soon as I put this online, I am making myself a target. I am going to say it now. I fail miserably at this. I am not the perfect person, on or off the field, in public or in private. But I have the confidence that “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Jesus” (Romans 8:1) and that “He who began to work in me, will complete it” (paraphrased, Phil 1:6).

FCA (fellowship of Christian Athletes) is one of the most influential agents of change in my life. God decided to use FCA to pursue me during hard times in my life. It helped bridge the disconnect from what I believed and how I lived my life. The huddle on the campus of Auburn University became my home. The people I’ve met through FCA have loved me and become my closest friends and second family. Because of what FCA has given me I give back to FCA. I would highly suggest getting involved.
